August 17, 2013 Atwater Beach, Shorewood, WI
On August 17th, the community of Shorewood, Wisconsin and the Great Lakes will gather together to celebrate what makes our community so special: our love of the lakes, fun with family and friends, and of course, SURFING!
From sunrise, to sunset, to the after-party (for all the grown-up surfers), Surf @Water has something for everyone! Surf lessons, water safety, picnics, and wrapping things up with a beach film festival, Surf @Water is one of the most unique celebrations the Midwest has ever seen!
Start the day with a sunrise on the lake coupled with words of celebration and appreciation provided by members of the Shorewood and Greater Milwaukee community.
5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Ever been on a surfboard? Now's your chance! Splash around, learn about water safety and if there's waves, maybe even stand up on a wave or two!
And then, as the sun sets, bring your beach blanket and get ready for movies on the beach!
Over 90 minutes of short films featuring Great Lakes surfing, as well as classic surf flicks from the 1960's. Think of it as Gidget meets the frozen tundra of Wisconsin!
After-Party (a.k.a. Surf Camp) @ Camp Bar
The festivities wrap up with an after party "Surf Camp" at Camp Bar in Shorewood. Voted one of the best new bars in the nation by Details magazine, Camp will feature surf videos, Lakefront Brewery favorites and most of all, a raffle for a custom-shaped 9' 6" longboard shaped by Michigan-based Justin Bruursema of Burly Surfboards.

About: We're the Wisconsin Great Lakes Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, a non-profit grassroots organization protecting our oceans, waves, beaches, lakes and waterways!
Mission: Surfrider Foundation is a non-profit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world's oceans, waves, beaches, and lakes for all people through a powerful activist network (through conservation, activism, research, and education). Today there are over 70 chapters nationwide with affiliates worldwide.
Why a Wisconsin Great Lakes Surfrider Foundation Chapter: To leverage the popularity of surfing and use the reputation of Surfrider Foundation as a platform to inspire environmental ethics towards our waterways. There are actually a good number of people in Wisconsin who surf, whether on Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, or other Wisconsin waterways (rivers/inland lakes) who believe in the mission of the Surfrider Foundation. Some might even call Sheboygan the world's fresh water surfing capitol! Our region boasts many surfers, sailboarders, wakeboarders, kiteboarders, kayakers, Stand Up Paddleboarders, and watermen and waterwomen in general who support the Surfrider Foundation vision and want to contribute to preserving our water resources here in Wisconsin. Surfrider serves as a great vehicle for individuals looking to take action and has the resources to empower those individuals.
